Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
