The pace bowler has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an impressive average.
The Australian selection chief the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming Ashes series.
There were concerns that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a ongoing back issue that remained unresolved.
Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series kicking off on 21 November in Western Australia.
He revealed that the captain is progressing and was "optimistic" about his chances of participating.
"We're aware that the window is narrowing and various factors around that, aside from the physical problem, but further aspects," he commented.
"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a major part. With luck starting in Perth. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."
Previous Setbacks
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals in the previous weeks after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.
He has a history of spinal problems, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from three Australian summers in a short span.
Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the contest.
He mentioned that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the initial match.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
The talented all-rounder was withdrawn recently from the national team for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."
"Considerable effort has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the initial game as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the initial matches regardless. The way he swings the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for another day, the choice was made to approach this more conservatively."
